What is the age range for children at Sunny Glen?
Sunny Glen Children’s Home is licensed to care for children ages 0 to 17.
How many cottages are there?
We currently have four full time cottages as well as one relief cottage. Our practice is to limit the number of boys and girls needing placement to eight in a cottage. While this is a “large household,” our goal is for houseparents to have enough quality time with all the children to meet their needs for attention and love.
Where do the children come from?
The children that live at Sunny Glen Children's Home come from all over the state of Texas. The majority of the children come from within the Rio Grande Valley.
Why are children placed at Sunny Glen Children’s Home?
Children are placed here by their parent(s) or by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. In many cases the children are placed here because of abuse and neglect. One of the goals of Sunny Glen is to keep families together. The majority of our children have at least one sibling with them at Sunny Glen. Many children have been placed here with multiple siblings.
How long do the children live at Sunny Glen?
There is not a certain time frame that children stay here. It all depends on how long their parents want them here, or how long they need to be here as determined by the Family Courts. There have been times when children have lived at Sunny Glen for the majority of their childhood, while others have only resided here for a few months. It all depends on the situation and need of each individual child and their family.
