Imagine a Saturday morning filled with colorful powder, children laughing, families walking side by side, and volunteers cheering as participants make their way toward the finish line.
That is what the community can look forward to when Sunny Glen Children’s Home presents its 12th Annual Incredible Kidz 5K and 1 Mile Color Fun Run on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at McKelvey Park in Harlingen.
The event begins at 8:00 a.m. and welcomes everyone, from experienced runners hoping to complete the 5K to families who simply want to enjoy the 1 Mile Color Fun Run together. Participants do not have to compete or worry about their finishing time. They only need to arrive ready to move, get colorful, and support a meaningful cause.
Behind every race bib, T-shirt, and medal is an opportunity to help Sunny Glen continue providing children with safety, care, and hope.
A Colorful Morning for the Whole Family
Some participants will arrive ready to run. Others may walk beside their children, push a stroller, or take their time while enjoying the color stations along the route. All of them will be part of the same experience.
The 5K offers a longer challenge for runners and walkers, while the 1 Mile Color Fun Run provides a shorter option for children, families, and casual participants. There is room for every pace and experience level.
Children ages 12 and younger can participate for free. Registration for participants ages 13 and older is $30. Each registration includes a run bib, event T shirt, medal, and plenty of colorful memories.
Walking and running also give families a fun reason to be active together. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains that regular physical activity can support heart health, strengthen bones and muscles, improve sleep, and reduce anxiety. At the Incredible Kidz Color Fun Run, those benefits come with laughter, encouragement, and a community cheering everyone forward.
Everything You Need to Know Before the Run
The event will begin at 8:00 a.m. at McKelvey Park, located at 1325 S. 77 Sunshine Strip in Harlingen, Texas.
Participants should wear comfortable clothes and supportive walking or running shoes. Because colorful powder is part of the fun, wearing light colored clothing can make the colors stand out. Participants may also want to bring a towel or a change of clothes for the ride home.
Sunny Glen will contact registered participants closer to the event with packet pickup information. Race packets will include the participant’s bib, event T-shirt, and medal.
There is no need to be the fastest runner on the course. Walk, run, laugh, take pictures, and enjoy being part of a morning created for the entire community.
The People Who Bring the Fun Run to Life
An event like this does not come together through one person’s work. Behind the starting line are Sunny Glen team members planning the day, volunteers preparing supplies, sponsors providing support, and community partners helping spread the word.
On the morning of the run, volunteers may welcome families, organize race materials, guide participants, hand out medals, or simply offer encouragement along the course. Sponsors and donors help provide the resources needed to make the event possible.
Each person has a different role, but all are working toward the same goal: creating a memorable community event that supports children.
What Every Mile Supports

The bright colors make the Fun Run exciting, but the reason behind the event gives every mile its meaning.
Proceeds help support Sunny Glen’s residential care, counseling services, and supervised independent living programs. These programs give children and young adults access to a safe environment, steady guidance, emotional support, and people who are committed to helping them move forward.
Since 1936, Sunny Glen has cared for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, loss, and instability. Its programs have changed and grown over the years, but its mission remains the same: providing a place of hope for every child.
That is why every registration matters. A parent walking with a child, a runner completing the 5K, a volunteer handing out water, and a local business sponsoring the event are all helping Sunny Glen continue its work.

A Community Moving With One Purpose
A finish line usually marks the end of a race. At the Incredible Kidz Color Fun Run, it can also represent the beginning of something meaningful, such as a new connection, a family tradition, or a deeper commitment to helping children in the Rio Grande Valley.
The event brings together families, schools, churches, businesses, volunteers, and community organizations. People who may not know one another at the beginning of the morning can find themselves laughing together, cheering for the same participants, and celebrating the same purpose by the end.
Gathering around a shared cause gives people an opportunity to build meaningful connections while supporting work that matters.
Those who cannot run can still help by volunteering, becoming a sponsor, inviting others, sharing the event online, or cheering from the sidelines. For sponsorship opportunities or additional information, contact Sunny Glen at fundraising@sunnyglen.org or 956-399-5356.
Meet Us at the Starting Line

When the colored powder settles and the final participants cross the finish line, the impact of the day will continue.
Every registration, volunteer hour, sponsorship, and shared invitation helps Sunny Glen provide children with care, encouragement, and a place where they can begin building a brighter future.
