Our foster care program in San Benito, TX has cared for children on this campus since 1945, giving those who have been neglected, abandoned, forgotten, or abused a safe place to land. It is built around keeping sibling groups together and caring for the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

It is an essential part of our mission that these children know there are adults they can trust, and that their worth as individuals is not dictated by their circumstances. Most important of all, we do this to let these incredibly resilient children know that they are loved and worthy of respect and of God’s love.

Keeping brothers and sisters together

When a child’s world falls apart, a sibling is often the one steady thing left. That is why we work hard to keep sibling groups together under one roof, so brothers and sisters can hold on to each other while everything else changes. We can often welcome large sibling groups, and when children cannot be placed together, we help arrange regular visits so those bonds stay strong.

A real home, not a facility

Children live in family-style cottages, where the goal is a home, not a facility. Every child has their own room to decorate and call their own. Our gated San Benito campus has green lawns, palm trees, a walking path, a playground, and space to just be a kid, the ordinary joys that every childhood deserves.

Care for the whole child

Healing takes more than a roof and a warm meal, though we provide those too. Our approach is grounded in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), a trauma-informed model built on empowering, connecting, and correcting. Its heart is the idea of “felt safety”: not only keeping a child safe, but helping that child finally feel safe enough to rest and to trust again.

Every child receives what they need to grow:

• Physical care through nutritious meals, clothing, medical and dental attention, and daily routines that bring stability.
• Emotional and mental health support through trauma-informed counseling and steady, caring relationships with our staff.
• Education with school support and encouragement to reach their full potential.
• Spiritual life in a faith-based home rooted in the Churches of Christ, where children are loved and welcomed, never pressured.

A safe place to heal

Safety comes first. Our campus is gated and staffed by security around the clock, with awake caregivers through the night so no child is ever alone in the dark. That security is not just about walls and gates. It is about a child learning, maybe for the first time, that the adults around them are steady, present, and worthy of trust.

Working toward family

Our hope for every child is a permanent, loving family. In partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services and community resources across South Texas, we work toward family reunification whenever it is safe and in the child’s best interest, and we support each child’s path to a lasting home, whether that is with family, or an adoptive family.
