Fishing Trips and First Catches
Children here discover more than shelter. They find moments of joy and quiet reminders that they are deeply loved by God and by all who stand beside them. Sometimes, on special days by the water, our kids cast fishing lines with laughter in the air. Some catch a catfish, some pull up a crab, and all bring home stories to share. For many, these simple trips are the first time they feel the thrill of waiting for a line to tug or a trap to lift, surrounded by friends and caring adults.
The Livestock Show Tradition
Each year, they look forward to the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show thanks to our board member Reagan Florence, who helps keep this visit a tradition. There, they enjoy sweet treats, carnival rides, baby animals, and the rodeo. Wide eyes take in the petting zoo, brave hearts hop on the rides, and sticky fingers carry cotton candy and new memories back home. These small joys lift young spirits and remind them that new things can grow in any season.
FORE! the Kids: Winter Warmth
When colder days arrive, warmth still fills our hearts. Our FORE! the Kids TopGolf Classic brings nearly 30 teams together for friendly swings, good food, and plenty of smiles. Heated bays and a warm Mexican Fiesta lunch keep the chill away, but the truest warmth comes from seeing our foster youth right in the middle of it all. They cheer, play, and feel the steady truth that they never stand alone. Players and sponsors show up not just for golf but to remind every child that they matter.

The Evangelical Sojourners’ Gift
One of the greatest gifts at Sunny Glen is the faithful people who give more than time or tools. They share their hearts. Each January, the Evangelical Sojourners arrive with open hands and caring spirits. They bring homemade meals that fill our dining spaces with the warmth of a family table. They gather for Bible study and quiet prayers, sharing gentle moments that stay with our kids long after plates are cleared.
This year, they built new ramps to help little feet move safely, put up sturdy fences that guard our grounds, and laid a donor brick walk that reminds us every gift leaves a mark. Their visit is a tradition we treasure every year, but the love they bring always feels fresh and needed. It is the steady spiritual care woven into each task that leaves the deepest imprint on our children and our home.
Yellow House Ministry: Spring Break Blessings
College students from Yellow House Ministry bless us in much the same way. Led by Brother Scottie Spake, they come each spring break to live alongside our kids. This year, they repainted our Learning Center with fresh colors, shared devotionals and worship, prayed side by side, and joined the kids for special outings like the Livestock Show and Rodeo. For more than twenty years, these students have chosen to serve instead of vacation.
Each visit brings new moments, but the heart behind it never changes. They remind our children what true love in action looks like. They show that when people arrive with open hearts, hope multiplies.

We see this planting in small joys too. Our kids recently visited the movie theater and were completely captivated by Captain America: Brave New World. The whole room was filled with laughter and wide-eyed moments that turned into favorite new memories. Valentine’s Day was extra special as staff filled decorated boxes with goodies and encouraging notes. Friends at Tropic Winds added a pizza party and thoughtful gifts that brought wide smiles to young faces.
Sometimes planting seeds looks like a quiet morning spent in nature. On a gentle walk through Resaca de la Palma State Park, our children used soft voices and soft steps to spot armadillos, cottontail rabbits, cardinals, green jays, orioles, and even a heart shape formed by a branch. These peaceful moments remind each child that the world is full of quiet miracles and that they are part of something beautiful and loved.
