Where It All Began
Our story starts in the 1930s, during one of the hardest seasons this country has ever known. A small group of faithful believers in the Rio Grande Valley saw children who had no one. No parents. No home. No one to tell them they mattered.
So they opened their doors. That first home in La Feria, Texas welcomed just a handful of kids. But from that small beginning, something beautiful grew.
Today, Sunny Glen Children’s Home in San Benito serves children and young adults across multiple programs. We’ve had the privilege of caring for more than 25,000 children since our founding. Every one of them has reminded us why this work matters.

Through our Poenisch Counseling Center, we provide professional counseling that helps children process pain and begin to rebuild their sense of self. Through our Supervised Independent Living program at the Monte and Amy Allen House, we help young adults learn the skills they’ll need to thrive on their own.
